Ryan Daniel Montgomery (born July 5, 1977), better known by his stage name Royce da 5'9", is a Detroit rapper. He is known for his longtime association with Eminem and for his solo career, recording primarily with DJ Premier, Nottz and Carlos "6 July" Broady, as well as ghostwriting for the likes of P. Diddy and Dr. Dre. Royce is one half of the rap duo Bad Meets Evil with Eminem, and also a member of hip hop group Slaughterhouse.
Early Career[]
Royce's manager introduced him to Em in 1997. Over time they both became good friends, and formed the rap duo Bad Meets Evil. They would go on to record many tracks including a 2011 EP. Em and Royce recorded the popular track "Renegade." Royce's verse sadly did not make the final cut and was replaced with Jay-Z.
Over the time Eminem and Royce started to grow apart. Mainly because Royce's manager went on a phone interview talking about Ems mentor, Dr. Dre in a rude manner.
D12 Feud[]
After him and Royce stopped talking very much. Em reunited with former rap group, D12. Him and D12 would then record 2 albums and many songs on Eminem's solo album. Royce did a freestyle which made D12 members misunderstand a line thinking its a diss towards Ems current tour, Anger management. This sparked a long rivalry. Royce recorded many songs, most notably "Malcolm X" which he takes shots at the group, mostly Bizarre.
D12 Member Proof has since then reported that he saw Royce and they ended the feud.
Shady records artist[]
Years later Royce signed to Em's record label, Shady Records. Royce also signed his group Slaughterhouse. As a Shady artist he recorded many albums including, Slaughterhouses Welcome to: Our house, Bad Meets Evil: Hell The Sequel, and his solo album "Success is certain."
